The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) is a labor union based out of Chicago and open to workers from all industries. The IWW is trying to organize for better conditions at work today and a better world tomorrow. The IWW is fighting for effective mutual defense on the job and negotiating and enforcing collectively bargained contracts. As of right now, the union has over 9,000 members and over 70 membership branches across the United States and Canada, 100% of these run by workers.
Established in 1905, the IWW is known for its high standards of democracy, transparency, multinationalism, and active use of the right to strike. The IWW promotes the creation of "One Big Union" and contends that all workers should be united as a social class to supplant capitalism and wage labor with industrial democracy.
