Gabor Maté is a Hungarian-Canadian physician and author. He is known for his expertise on a range of topics including addiction, stress, and child development. Maté's approach to addiction focuses on the trauma his patients have suffered and looks to address this in their recovery. Rather than offering quick-fix solutions to these complex issues, Dr. Maté weaves together scientific research, case histories, and his own insights and experience to present a broad perspective that enlightens and empowers people to promote their own healing and that of those around them. In his book In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction, Maté discusses the types of trauma suffered by persons with substance use disorders and how this affects their decision-making later in life. He has authored four books exploring topics that include ADHD, stress, developmental psychology, and addiction. Maté is also a co-developer of a therapeutic approach, Compassionate Inquiry, now studied by hundreds of therapists, physicians, counselors, and others internationally.
